How To Deep-Clean Your Home Before Moving In

It is always so very exciting when you move into a new home. A blank canvas just for you to put some personal touches on. However, before you settle in at your new home, you will need to do some deep cleaning. Read on to discover some handy tips on how to deep clean your new home.

1. Clean high before your clean low.

Always start your cleaning with those high up features like ceiling fans, overhead lighting fixtures, air conditioners, and shelves. As you clean these features, the dirt and dust will inevitably settle on the area below them. This way, you avoid having to clean the low areas twice.

Pro tip:
Use an old pillowcase to clean the ceiling fan blades to avoid a dust storm situation. Slip the pillowcase over each blade and wipe away the dust with the inside of the pillowcase.

2. Get started on the fridge.

First, remove all the shelves and drawers then wash them with some soap and warm water. Next, tackle the inside of the fridge. Make a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and wipe down all the surfaces. If there are any stubborn stains, let the water and vinegar solution sits for a bit and then scrub it off.

Pro tip:
Remember to also clean behind the fridge, the handles, and the sealing that encases the doors.

3. Work on the kitchen.

Now that your fridge is as good as new, get to work on the rest of the kitchen. Start scrubbing all the appliances (stove, oven, microwave, sink) and then follow this up with the countertops and cabinets.

Pro tip:
For stubborn stains, whip up a powerful concoction of water and baking soda. Spread it out over the stain and let it sit for around 15 minutes, then get scrubbing.

4. Make a move to the bathroom.

This is where you go all out and start using some heavy-duty cleaning supplies. Scrub down all the surfaces and sanitise with some antibacterial spray to disinfect and get rid of any remaining germs.

Pro tip:
Get rid of hard water stains (those stubborn stains on your faucets and showerheads) by rubbing them down with some fresh lemon juice.

5. Venture Out

You are now finally ready to clean the rest of your new home. Follow rule No. 1 and start from the top. Do not miss out on those easily-forgotten spots like tops of doors, windows, light switches and the interior of the closets.

Finally, move on to the floor. Take your trusty HYLA and its attachments to all the surfaces and the nooks and crannies to suck up the dirt as well as dust. Follow this up by mopping.

Pro tip: For grimy and stained grout, you may need to use bleach. Dilute the bleach down with equal parts water and scrub the solution into the grout with a toothbrush. Leave it in for an hour, then scrub clean.
